Raita is a side dish in Indian cuisine which is made by blending thick yogurt with various fruits, vegetables, and spices. Some people consider raita to be a form of salad, while others use it more like a condiment. There are an assortment of ingredients which can be used in raita, creating dishes which range from almost sweet to intensely spicy.

  • 2 medium sized Potatoes
  • 1/4 teaspoon Chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Chaat Masala (optional)
  • 2 cups Yoghurt
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 1/4 teaspoon Pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cumin powder
  • 4 tablespoons Coriander leaves
  • Salt
  1. Boil the potatoes, or microwave them for around 6 - 7 minutes.
  2. When the potatoes have cooled down cut them into small cubes.
  3. Add salt and red chillie powder and chaat masala ( optional). Mix well with potatoes and keep aside.
  4. Beat the yoghurt with an egg beater add some water to thin the yoghurt a bit and blend to a smooth consistency.
  5. Add salt, pepper and roasted cumin powder. (You can roast the Cumin seeds on a fry pan and then use a mortal and pestle to grind )
  6. Add the diced potato cubes which you prepared in step 3.
  7. Transfer the mixture in the serving bowl.
  8. Place it in the refrigerator to cool down.
  9. Garnish it with coriander and chopped mint.
